Hive Climb and Swing package

The upper-body challenge most early learning yards are missing.
Ask any centre what their outdoor space lacks and the answer is ‘the hanging, swinging and brachiating that builds the shoulder girdle, grip and bilateral coordination children need.

An arched monkey bar span bridges two full-height Hive boxes, creating a genuine overhead challenge inside a structure children can climb to, rest on and re-approach at their own pace. A cargo net climbing attachment gives an alternative more challenging  route up. Four Accoya planks, wobbly and stepped, extend the circuit outward so children can build a full sequence: run, climb, cross, hang, land, repeat.

You can split some of the pieces from this set to use for younger children in 2-3 years play spaces. Add more planks as you need.

Space required:

Low-height toddler configurations often require significantly less surfacing than standard equipment. Ask our team to confirm the requirement for your yard, it may be smaller than you expect.

What it develops

Upper body and grip strength — hanging and traversing loads the shoulders, arms and hands in a way no ground-based equipment can replicate, and directly supports the hand strength required for later pencil control.

Bilateral coordination — moving one hand then the other across a span requires the two sides of the body, and the two hemispheres of the brain, to co-operate in sequence.

Proprioception and body awareness — suspended, a child receives intense feedback about where their body is in space. This is the deep sensory input many children actively seek and rarely get.

Motor planning and sequencing — approaching, ascending, crossing and dismounting is a four-step plan a child must hold in mind and execute in order.

Courage, persistence and self-efficacy — the first full crossing of a monkey bar span is a landmark achievement in a child’s life. Centres that provide one are providing something children genuinely remember.
